After doing a few hours of work this morning, I quickly rushed around and prepared for the maids to arrive. I also tried finding out if there was any chance in hell that I would be able to get a static IP on our cable modem after the cutover (doesn't look like it). Then, dvorak and I fled (maids coming and all).
We headed up 395, or rather, we tried to. Some genius decided that it would be a good idea to reduce 395 north to one lane. So, after about half an hour had passed, we got off the interstate and started wandering around, figuring we'd find our way to our destination eventually. Which we did. After going in one very large circle. =)
But, we eventually got to where we were going, which was RT's, a great little Cajun restaurant in Alexandria. dvorak, as usual, had the Shrimp Norman. I poked around the menu looking for something that wouldn't upset my stomach, and finally decided to take my chances and went with the Jambalaya Sautee. After a nice lunch (and we didn't spill anything, which is something we usually do at RT's, for some reason), we drove over to the (completely deserted) theater, where we proceeded to spend a little over three hours lost in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien brought to the big screen.
Now, I'm not really much of a Tolkien fan (yes, yes, I know), but I love a good fantasy movie. I say this as someone who has gone out of her way to see pretty much all of them that come out, and hasn't seen much in the way of a good one since the era of Willow, Labyrinth, and Legend. And Fellowship of the Ring certainly qualified. The casting was superb (I say as someone who has never read the book), the cinematography incredible, the special effects awesome, and best of all... the dwarves kicked ass.
I will attempt to write a more coherent review of the movie at some point later, but I am now tired. (See, I fell asleep on the couch, and it's now actually 1:33 in the morning, not 8:43 PM like stated above. Erm. I didn't fall asleep on the couch until about 12:30. Why am I telling you this?)
Anyway, a good time was had today. Yay.
