First, there was the pharmacy incident of a couple of weeks ago, which was pretty stunning in and of itself.
But, that's not what's spawning this post.
Yesterday, I went out to pick up some badly-needed meds (bad week to go off the Prozac, you know), and had taken my iPod along to listen to in the car. I unhooked everything when I got home, and came upstairs. Then, when I was getting ready to go out to the movies last night, I couldn't find it anywhere. I had a brief moment of panic when I thought that I had thrown it away with the other things I cleaned out of the car, but I looked in the trash can downstairs, and it wasn't there, and the trashcan still had just the trash that I had thrown out in it, so I guessed that wasn't it. So, I came to the conclusion that I had taken it upstairs like I remembered, and simply put it down "somewhere I could find it" in the apartment. (Isn't that the most dangerous place ever?)
Today, when I got in the car to go look at cars (yes, that makes sense), I noticed that there was a note under my windshield wiper. It said, "I found an ipod. Call me at [number]."
So, I call the number, and leave voice mail. She called me back about 20 minutes ago, and I went upstairs to retrieve the iPod, taking $20 with me (all the cash I had on hand). She wouldn't take the cash, and said she was glad she found the owner. I felt rather goofy offering a mere $20 for someone returning a $500 toy, but... and then she didn't take it.
Sometimes, people don't suck.
[Edit: Went to work to fetch the iPod power stuffs, as I had left it there on Thursday, and the battery was dead when I picked up the thingie from the nice lady. First round reports seem to indicate that the iPod still works. I'm really pressing my luck, here.]
