Doings and goings.

Last night, I dragged Torque and Nyarla in to Visions to see Blind Spot: Hitler's Secretary. We met up with vvalkryi and badmagic just before the movie started. (Good to see vvalkryi again, even if only for a bit. I shall have to try to not let another five years or so pass before seeing her again.)

The general consensus of the film seemed to be, "Interesting subject matter, but the presentation felt flat." It was basically, "put camera on tripod, record woman talking for several hours / days, edit." But, it was interesting.

While killing time for the movie to start, Torque and I sat in the bar and talked for a bit, and I learned more interesting things about him. The boy has all sorts of things about him that I've known nothing about for the ... what? 5 years? that I've worked with him. I'm glad we've started hanging out and talking more.

On the drive to and from the movie, Nyarla and I tortured Torque with pretty much the entirety of Rap Replinger's Poi Dog with Crabs album. I mean, Nyarla and I were rolling around, but I don't know how funny Rap's stuff is to someone who isn't from Hawaii. He put up with it with good grace, though. :)

After depositing Torque back at his car, I took Nyarla home, and she spent the drive going through the Hawaiian music playlist on the iPod. She, of course, pounced on three of the feel-good, homesick-making songs of Hawaii, and she and I blasted the songs and sang along, and sniffled.

Cecilio & Kapono: Goodtimes Together: Goodtimes Together

It's been a good time together
Looking for the warmth of the sun
Gonna be a long time together
And the best yet to come

I remember the beginning,
We were younger then.
We used to play those games,
We'd both pretend

But that was then
And now our moment's come again
So do we throw it all away?
Is this the end?

It's been a good time together
Looking for the warmth of the sun
Gonna be a long time together
And the best is yet to come

We've seen the ones that could not make the grade
Hiding broken hearts, living a masquerade
And if it's not magic that we're weaving, let's not be afraid
To sing our song of love that we've already made.

Cause it's been a good time together
Looking for the warmth of the sun
Gonna be a long time together
And the best is yet to come

So here we together in tomorrow's dream
Strike the band and play that old familiar theme
Take the lovers by the hand and lead the way
Your summer lady by your side, don't let her slip away

Cause it's been a good time together
Looking for the warmth of the sun
Gonna be a long time together
And the best is yet to come

Keola & Kapono Beamer: Honolulu City Lights: Honolulu City Lights

Looking out upon the city lights
And the stars above the ocean
Got my ticket for the midnight plane
And it's not easy to leave again

Took my clothes and put them in my bags
Try to not think just yet of leaving
Looking out into the city night
It's not easy to leave again

Each time Honolulu city lights
Stir up memories in me
Each time Honolulu city lights
Will bring me back again

You are my island sunset
And you are my island rain

Put on my shoes and light a cigarette
Wondering which of my friends will be there
Standing with leis around my neck
It's not easy to leave again

Each time Honolulu city lights
Stir up memories in me
Each time Honolulu city lights
Will bring me back again

Bring me back again
Bring me back again

The Peter Moon Band: Cane Fire: Far Too Wide for Me

I sit somewhere along the bay
And stare at islands far away
Their grey and misty outline
Appear way out to sea

But clouds are never what they seem
And far winds dissolve my dreams
I do believe this ocean
Is far too wide for me

With Honolulu on my mind
And someone there I left behind
I wish that there were some way
To walk across the sea

It seems to me I always lose
When fighting any homesick blues
I do believe this ocean
Is far too wide for me

I wish I could be watching
Those blue waters flow
As the trade winds blow
All the clouds away

And would you be there
Sweet and lovely
By my side
As the seabirds glide
As the palm trees sway

I wish I could be watching
Those blue waters flow
As the trade winds blow
All the clouds away

And you would be there
Sweet and lovely
By my side
As the seabirds glide
As the palm trees sway

But there is little I can do
Except to dream when I'm feeling blue
It seems that there are some things
That are not meant to be

As I get up, I feel a chill
What this place needs is getting used to still
I do believe this ocean
Is far too wide for me

Of course, I am now horribly horribly homesick. It's been about 2 years since I've been home, and that seems to be about the maximum interval I can deal with before going crazy. *sigh*
